100 Days of Scouting: Day 36 to Day 40

We have 6 Webelos Scouts crossing over to our troop in a couple of weeks.  Our SPL has been working with them this month to get them formed into a patrol--picked a leader, make a flag, and still working on the patrol yell.

Each one of them will receive the new BSA Handbook when they come across that bridge.  Most of our older Scouts still have the older version, so this will be a real mark of distinction.  That, and the height.

More days:

We are rapidly approaching the mid-point of our 100 Days experience.  What have you learned about yourself so far?  Please comment and let us know.

It's great that your Troop has taken such initiative to work with the Scouts before crossover. Great way to have them being part of the team from day 1.

@Scouter Doug: We have tried this approach for 3 years now, and it seems to work. The SPL comes in and runs the den meetings for the entire month before crossover. Each week, they tackle election of a patrol leader, making a flag, coming up with a patrol yell, reviewing the Scout Oath, Law and Outdoor Code.

It helps to put the SPL in the "leader role" for the den, and it helps the den leader to step back...;-)

The result is a new patrol after Crossover that is ready to go.

Oh, the newly elected patrol leader attends the PLC in March, which covers April's plans--the first month they exist as a patrol. Very eye-opening to the new PL.
